Green Book is a take on the racism present in the Southern states of the US in the 20th century (The movie is set in 1962). And it has been made exceptionally well. What really makes this film special is how the protagonists' mindsets transition over the course of the film as different events transpire.

Credit has to be given to director Peter Farrelly. The screenplay is crafted carefully, ensuring that every scene is significant to the characters' aforementioned transition. Furthermore, apart from racism, the film also touches upon other issues like homosexuality and sexism.
There are some particularly riveting scenes that really tug at your heartstrings. These scenes range from feelings like unfathomable love to crushing frustration, and it is these scenes that truly make this movie memorable.
I would like to end by saying that Green Book is definitely one of the best movies of this year and is surely a must-watch.
Oscars Update: Green Book won Best Picture(!), Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Mahershala Ali) and Best Original Screenplay (deserving all of them). It was also nominated for Best Actor (for Viggo Mortensen's performance) and Best Achievement in Film Editing (both of which went to Bohemian Rhapsody).
This is such an apt description to the movie!!
ReplyDeleteGreen Book is one of those movies I wouldn't mind re-watching and it never fails to amaze me. I especially love the relation between Tony and Dr. Shirley, and how it changes from the beginning of the movie till the end. :)
